Hello,

Stumbled upon this website in searching customization for my 2006 Aero VT750C. I am looking for custom fender, and seat options on a shoestring budget.

I purchased my bike a year ago and fell in love with it instantly. But the monstrous fender sizes always bothered me.

I'm looking for a rear and front fender that is minimal in styling (I don't have a passenger need) and quite possibly a new seat. I'm new to customization so I don't really know where to begin.

Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I liked the look of this in terms of fender options:

I forgot to ask, how do you remove the rear fender? The 3 bolts along the chrome trim seem to be be show pieces rather than functional.

Looks like the three chrome bolts on the side will remove the fender. You will also have to remove the seat. I hate to say it, but if you can't figure out how to remove the fender without asking, then a custom fender may be out of your realm of skills.

Fair enough assumption. I finally saw between the trim that the bolts were indeed real and not fake trim pieces and used a wrench to get them off. They were really stuck on there.

I taped up the rear fender and cut half of it off. It's sitting too high for my taste so I'm thinking of trimming the bottom piece off, drilling a new mount hole and resetting it. In hindsight I should have just sold the rear fender and had my friend fabricate something up.

The rails that the rear fender sit on, can they just be hacked off after the struts? I've seen a few camshaft driven bikes that appear to have them removed.

Yeah you can cut off as much of the rear frame that you don't need. Just be sure to weld back up the rear of frame for strength. If you are not comfortable with welding it is not something I would attempt.

Thanks for the info! I'm not at all comfortable with welding and leaving that part to a good friend of mine.

10 years later... Did you get the fenders switched? I'm looking to buy and there's an 07 Aero shaft, but I really don't like the fenders. If I can customize it, that would be great.

Probably not, if there are no further posts from him. Sadly, most Bobber projects end up rotting away in barns, garages or sheds... or sold cheap on Craigslist. But it's doable! You just need a plan, and the will and tools to make it happen.

For an idea, check out ChaseOn2Wheels on YouTube for their 'Wrecked Bike Rebuild' Bobber project. They do a newer Yamaha VStar, but the concepts are the same...

Thanks for the tip. Ya, I figured after 8 years it was a long shot.
Ironically, the fenders are growing on me. I literally just got the bike a couple days ago, and while I've been focused on the chopped down, lean style, this Aero as is, is working for me.

I'll check out the videos. I've been watching TJ Brutal Customs.

I think my first task is to put some risers on the handle bars.

I bought an 07 vt750c off a guy for $400 and have been bobbing it out. Have you found a suitable replacement for the risers? I hate the stock bars and they are tweaked from the bike being in an accident
