Me and my buddy try to do a top speed GPS reading he has a 2012 s1000rr with full akrapovic system and pc5 while I have the stock hp4 and on GPS reading only got 177mph top out on 6th gear on my speedometer I saw 184 but when we look at GPS it was only 177 then a buddy of ours has a 2011 zx10 with a flash ecu not speed limit governor and got 188 how is the posible is there anyone doing the ecu flash on the BMW to remove top speed limiter,I heard guys talking about their bikes stop at 186 but on GPS it keeps reading weather that day was around 68 degrees who else has tried to see what they get on GPS top speed themself and not what others say they've gotten?

so your governor stopped you from going faster, or the bike just topped out?

You should also check the circumference of the tire you are using vs the ZX10. Tire size will matter.

Me and my buddy both are running Bridgestone s20 190/50/17
And our other buddy on the zx10 has Michelin power 190/50/17

2010 s1000rr with full akro and pcv

190.15 gps top speed bouncing off the rev limiter in 6th gear.

At least 20 runs over 186 mph gps.

stock gearing, 200/55-17 slick rear tire.

I did 185.9 in the standing mile at the last event I attended.
Bike setup: 688 link pipe, HP Race ECU & stock gearing w/525 chain.
Did 185 twice that day. That's all she had with stock gearing.
This year I'm I'm going to run a 520 chain & 39 tooth on the rear.
This should get me 200.

There are so many variables in top speed runs that you hardly can't count them, it ain't nearly as easy as some folks let on.

How good is your tuck? Knees, elbows, and toes in? Did you push back on the seat so your rear end is nearly on the passenger seat and your helmet on the tank?

Mirrors off the bike?

Tire pressure? Should be 40 psi or more.

You do say something that is odd to me... my '11 speedo is dead on at speeds above 175 mph. Don't know why your isn't... BUT, GPS are not 100% accurate either.

Tire may list the same size but the circumference may have a slight difference. Those slight differences will mean that he will be covering more ground per unit time if we assume that the engine rpm has maxed out and is spinning the pinion and sprocket as fast as can be.

And as RandsomT pointed out, the tire pressure matters because it will determine grip / slippage and tire size. I will imagine any drag generated from aerodynamic inefficiencies will contribute to the slippage factor.

Jimmy,

There is no "top speed" limiter/governor. There is only a "rev limiter" that is on new bikes, and it is an electronic ignition limiter that is removed by the dealer after the initial miles.

The speedometer itself is designed to not show anything above the 186 mph limit (indicated) built into it. That's equivalent to 300 kph the Europeans don't want you to see.

As others have said, there are a variety of aerodynamic, friction, and mechanical reasons you may not be seeing a higher (true) top speed, including body position, tire diameter and pressure, road surface, road angle, altitude, barometric pressure and temperature, even distance measured by the GPS itself. It's an averaging device and not exact. :D

I don't know much about the S bikes but I thought all bikes came with a top speed limiter? Let me or Jose ride it and see what it does.

One is an iphone the other a dedicated gps. I certainly question how accurate the iphones are when going balls out.

The iphone one is accurate it just takes a few "approx 5 "seconds to catch up , so if you are only holding top speed for a couple of seconds it might not catch the top speed

So whats the formula to be able to go 200 then?! A ported head? A little squirt of nitrous?

A big tailwind is the cheapest and the best :)

Bren Tuning states there are top speed limiters on this bike in a previous post.
